CNNC conducts mineral fieldwork in Saudi Arabia

Updated: 2017-06-26

The China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) completed a phase of fieldwork in Saudi Arabia, discovering and labeling several target mineral areas. Officials and experts from Saudi Arabia highly praised the breakthrough made by CNNC crew in mine exploration and exploitation.

Earlier on March 16, CNNC and the Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) signed a memorandum of understanding in the presence of China’s President Xi Jinping and Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud regarding bilateral cooperation on mineral resources.

As the project executor, the Beijing Research Institute of Uranium Geology (BRIUG), a subsidiary of CNNC, organized a geological survey to seek mineral resources in Saudi Arabia.

The project has been divided into four phases, with the first phase demanding inclusive outdoor geological research. CNNC’s China Uranium Industry Company also participated in the project.

During the course of the fieldwork, nearly 80 BRIUG geologists completed interdisciplinary tasks related to geology, geochemistry and geophysics. The BRIUG staff has successfully accomplished the first phase tasks, building a solid foundation for further assignments.
