Wang Shoujun, chairman of the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), held talks with Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft and chairman of TerraPower, in Bellevue, Washington, from July 26 to 29, with the purpose of establishing cooperation on the traveling wave reactor (TWR).

It’s been a pleasure to collaborate with CNNC and jointly promote the development the 4th generation nuclear power technology, according to Gates. He expects a practical mutual business relationship to be realized as soon as possible.

Wang appreciates the support from Mr. Gates on the project cooperation. Both sides have conducted a long-term discussion and negotiation on establishing a joint venture company, and the preliminary work has already been put on the agenda. The next steps will focus on implementing the scheduled TWR project.

During the visit, Wang also met with Lee McIntire, chief executive officer of TerraPower, and inspected the Idaho National Laboratory and TerraPower’s TWR research center.
