Qian Zhimin, president of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), attended an annual general meeting of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing from Dec 10 to 11.

Zhang Gaoli, vice-premier of the State Council and chairman of CCICED, presided over and addressed the conference.

The CCICED annual conference, centered around “Ecological Civilization in Action: A Common Green Future for the New Era”, mainly discussed issues related to the current state of the environment and development, and submitted suggestions to the State Council for policy formulation.

Qian, as a CCICED committee member, pointed out that the Communist Party of China has paid much emphasis to ecological civilization construction and set “Constructing Beautiful China” as a crucial goal in building a modern and powerful country during the 19th CPC National Congress.

China is witnessing profound changes in its social development, and the government should conduct systematic, all-round and thorough campaigns from the aspects of science and technology, education and culture for a better environment and development, added Qian.

Established in 1992, CCICED is a high-level international advisory body approved by the Government of China. The past and present chairmen of the council have all been top Chinese officials.

The Sixth CCICED Conference was officially initiated during the meeting. The attendees include CCICED Chairman Zhang Gaoli; Li Ganjie, Minister of Environmental Protection; and Catherine McKenna, Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Canada.

Among the 65 committee members, there are 28 Chinese citizens, mainly from the National People’s Congress, the departments of the State Council, national-level institutes and State-owned corporations.
