On July 13th, the core module of the Linglong One reactor passed its acceptance test and will be shipped to Hainan Nuclear Power, marking a historic step in the modular manufacturing of small pressurized water reactor units. It is also the world's first commercial onshore modular small reactor.

The core module of the Linglong One reactor mainly consists of two key components: the pressure vessel and the steam generator. They were independently designed by the CNNC's Nuclear Power Institute of China and manufactured by China First Heavy Industries.

The design and construction of Linglong One are revolutionary and groundbreaking. Modular construction is its most prominent feature. Through standardized design and production of a single module and mass production, it shortened the construction period and reduced costs while improving safety. The modular small reactor is with a simplified system and small equipment size, which is convenient for transportation and operation. It allows for flexible adjustments and construction according to users' requirements, resulting in significant economic benefits.

Linglong One has a power generation capacity of 125,000 kilowatts and an annual power generation of 1 billion kWh, enough to meet the needs of 526,000 households. It will reduce 880,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually, which is equivalent to planting 7.5 million trees. Its application can optimize the energy structure, reduce the consumption of fossil fuels in China, and significantly promote energy conservation and carbon emission reduction, contributing to China's carbon peak and neutrality goals.

The reactor is also designed for heating, steam production and seawater desalination. As a highly secure distributed clean energy source, it can be deployed near towns and industrial parks, enabling nuclear energy to be close to cities and users.
