The circular belt of the dome for unit 8 of the Tianwan nuclear power plant, invested and constructed by China National Nuclear Power (CNNP) of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), was successfully hoisted into place on March 13th. With this, both unit 7 and unit 8 have entered the installation and commissioning stage.

Weighing about 473 tons, the circular belt was lifted using a 2,000-ton crawler crane. After a series of high-precision movements, it was positioned onto the containment shell, with the accuracy controlled within millimeters. The dome of unit 8 consists of the circular belts and the tops, which will be installed in two stages.

The Tianwan nuclear power plant plans to construct eight units, making it the nuclear power base with the largest total installed capacity under construction and in operation globally. The cumulative safe power generation of units 1-6 has exceeded 410 billion kWh, which could supply more than 100 million Chinese households for 1.6 years.

Upon completion, it will have an installed capacity of over 9 million kW and will provide clean electricity of 70 billion kWh every year, which is equivalent to cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 57.4 million tons. It will play an important role in promoting local industry and energy structure adjustment, supporting the energy supply security, building a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient modern energy system, and contributing to green and low-carbon development, providing more solutions to global energy governance.
