China to contribute more power to global nuclear safety
China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) chairman Wang Shoujun met with Jacques Régaldo, chairman of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) on May 8, 2018, holding talks on the preparation work of WANO’s center in Shanghai and reaching an agreement on global nuclear safety cooperation.
Wang extended gratitude to Régaldo for his support on building WANO Shanghai center. Wang stressed that the center will help contribute more Chinese wisdom and power to global nuclear security. Wang also vowed that CNNC will work with other nuclear companies to build the center as a communication and platform for regional nuclear power operators with international influence.
Régaldo briefed the cooperation between the two sides, adding that China’s nuclear development has attracted the world's attention. The establishment of WANO’s center in Shanghai conformed to the global nuclear development pattern, WANO’s growth strategy and China’s nuclear development trend. He wished that CNNC and WANO could enhance collaboration and exchanges to boost the global nuclear safety.
The proposal of “World Association of Nuclear Operation -Shanghai Center”, initiated and organized by CNNC, has been passed at the WANO board of directors. It signified that China has taken a big step in promoting the fifth Region Center of WANO to be settled in Shanghai.
