World's first AP1000 nuclear unit connected to grid
The world’s first AP1000 third-generation nuclear reactor, Unit 1 of Sanmen Nuclear Power Plant, owned by China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), was successfully connected to the power grid for the first time at 4:48 am on June 30.
Following connection to the grid, the reactor appeared to be functioning normally and it can now enter a period of intensive debugging to ensure it meets all predesigned safety requirements.
The reactor will then undergo transient wave tests under different power conditions, before starting commercial operations as scheduled.
