The lifting of the heat exchanger of Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant Unit 5 in Fujian province was completed on April 28, signifying that the first large reactor equipment of Hualong One (HPR 1000) has been hoisted.

The project is being undertaken by China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC).

The innovative design that combines active and passive systems is one of the embodiments of the highest international security measures of Hualong One, the 3rd-generation nuclear power brand to which China has exclusive intellectual property rights.

Passive systems mainly include the containment heat extraction system, the reactor cavity water injection cooling system, and the secondary-side passive residual heat removal system.

The secondary-side passive residual heat removal system is designed to derive the core residual heat and the heat storage of the reactor coolant system equipment when the auxiliary water supply system fails. It can maintain the reactor at a safe shutdown status within 72 hours to ensure the safety of the reactor.

There are three heat exchangers, which are distributed in the pit areas of the three passive heat outlet pools. Previously, the first and second heat exchangers were hoisted on April 17 and April 25 respectively.
