The 500 kilovolt (kV) backfeeding of the main transformer of Unit 5 of Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant in Fuqing, East China's Fujian province was successfully tested on March 31, laying a reliable foundation the unit's cold performance test and hot performance test in the future.

As the world’s first nuclear power plant of Hualong One (HPR 1000), Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant Unit 5 has received help from Hualong One's construction team to solve problems during the backfeeding test preparation.

The construction team applied risk management tools to analyze the potential influences of the backfeeding to the Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant Unit 5.

Backfeeding refers to the reverse flow of power from power stations. The backfeeding at Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant Unit 5 covered the main transformer and step-down transformer of the 500 kV switchyard, as well as the primary and secondary electric accessories of the 6.6 kV power distribution system.
