The concrete pouring of the outer containment dome of unit 5 of the Fuqing nuclear power plant -- the demonstration project for the first Hualong One reactor -- was completed successfully in Fuqing, a city of East China's Fujian province on July 14, officials said.
To date, the height of the Hualong One reactor has reached 73.98 meters, becoming the new landmark for Fuqing nuclear power plant.
Hualong One is a third-generation nuclear power technology with completely independent intellectual property rights in China, with a double-layered containment dome that can withstand the impact of a large aircraft.
At present, the four Hualong One nuclear power plants at home and abroad under construction by China National Nuclear Corporation are being completed on schedule or in advance.
Officials said the project safety and quality were in a well-controlled state.
The outer dome structure of Hualong One unit is the largest shell structure in the construction of nuclear power units in the world.
The reinforced mechanical joints have adopted aircraft-resistant mechanical joints and adopted a full load-bearing scaffold support system to support the shell and inner dome.
Officials said that in view of the importance and complexity of the construction of the outer containment dome, the construction units of Hualong One demonstration project attached great importance to and cooperate with each other.
Inspections of construction preconditions have been organized, as have special inspections for safety and quality, as well as multiple on-site comprehensive inspections. Officials said the problems found in the inspections were identified and rectified in a timely manner.
They said the construction team successfully overcame many difficulties, such as a short construction period, large quantities of materials used, high safety risks linked to the frame erection during rainy and hot weather -- as well as jointly completing the pouring of concrete for the outer dome of the Hualong One reactor.
