On Dec 27th and 28th, two units of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) completed dome lifting and positioning, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent installation and grid-connected power generation. They are the inner dome of Unit 4 at the Changjiang Nuclear Power Plant in Hainan and the outer dome of Unit 2 at the Zhangzhou Nuclear Power Plant in Fujian.
The Hualong One nuclear reactor adopts a double-layer safety containment. The dome is located at the top of the nuclear island to ensure its integrity and sealing, playing a vital role in containing radiation. After a series of high-precision actions such as hooking and lifting, the dome was successfully hoisted into position.
The Hualong One is currently one of the most competitive third-generation nuclear power models and a calling card of China's nuclear power industry. It has become a preferred third-generation nuclear power solution contributed by China to the world. It plays a positive role in ensuring China's energy security.
The Zhangzhou Nuclear Power Plant is China's initial construction project of the Hualong One. Upon the completion of the first phase, its two units will generate over 20 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, equivalent to saving 6 million tons of coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 16.32 million tons annually. This is comparable to planting 140 million trees each year.
The Changjiang Nuclear Power Plant in Hainan is one of China's important nuclear power bases. Unit 1 and Unit 2 have maintained long-term safe and stable operation. With the successful hoisting and positioning of the dome for Unit 4, it has become China’s first nuclear power base to complete three dome hoisting operations in the same year.
