  • Chashma Nuclear Power Plant

Since 1992 when China Nuclear Energy Industry Corporation (CNEIC) and Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) signed the nuclear fuel supply contract for the Chashma Nuclear Power Plant, the cooperation between the two parties has been constantly expanding. Through the successive signing of nuclear fuel supply contracts for Unit 2-4 of Chashma Nuclear Power Plant (C-2/C-3/C-4) and Unit 2 & 3 of Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (K-2/K-3), the total number of nuclear fuel assemblies exported to Pakistan exceeds 2,000 sets, which can effectively ensure local energy security, ease the pressure of power supply, and promote stable and healthy economic and social development of Pakistan and the high-quality development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. Furthermore, CNEIC has played a positive role in promoting the efficient operation of the global nuclear fuel supply chain and the healthy and stable development of the global nuclear industry.

  • The Karabiga power plant

The Karabiga 2×660 MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired power plant project undertaken by China Nuclear Energy Industry Corporation (CNEIC) is located in Karabiga, a town on the southeast shore of the Sea of Marmara in #Türkiye. It is the first ultra-supercritical coal-fired power plant in Türkiye, one of the major energy infrastructure projects of Türkiye, and an exemplary project of China-Türkiye #cooperation. In the stage of installation, CNEIC actively assisted the Türkiye’s property owner in employee recruitment and organized skill training for relevant employees, which effectively improved the occupational skills of local employees; recruited over 1,000 local employees and thus promoted the local economic development through employment and improved the life of local people.

  • Nuclear technology in health care

CNNC gives full play to its unique advantages in nuclear technology application and continuously promotes the application of nuclear technology in the international health care industry, helping the development of nuclear medicine technology and protecting the health of people in the countries along the Belt and Road.

In recent years, over 600,000 breath test reagents have been supplied to more than 10 countries along the Belt and Road such as the #Philippines and #Kazakhstan, making a positive contribution to the public health of the countries along the Belt and Road.

In March 2021, HTA Co., Ltd. supplied a laminar flow cabinet (99mTc labeling ultra-clean bench) to #Nigeria and provided technical assistance related to the installation, use and operation of nuclear medicine equipment to support the development of nuclear medicine in Nigeria, aiming at serving the local community.

On Dec 30, 2021, HTA Co., Ltd. supplied the first batch of China-made sodium iodide oral solution to local hospitals in #Indonesia, which helped the hospitals in diagnosis and meet the demand of local thyroid disease patients.

  • The conversion of MNSRs

The conversion of Miniature Neutron Source Reactors (MNSRs) from high-enriched uranium (HEU) to low-enriched uranium (LEU) is an important step for non-proliferation. Ghana's MNSR, an MNSR running on HEU designed and manufactured by the China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE) in 1994, is the only nuclear reactor in the country, and has made important contributions to the application and development of nuclear technology and personnel training in #Ghana. Between 2015 and 2017, #CNNC actively responded to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Initiative. With technical support provided by the CIAE for the conversion to LEU, and under the agreement of the CIAE with the Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) of the U.S. on LEU fuel design, processing and zero power testing, the conversion of Ghana's MNSR to low-enriched uranium was implemented.

The conversion of Ghana's MNSR to low-enriched uranium is the first international nuclear engineering project in which China assisted another country in carrying out a low-enriched uranium conversion for an MNSR. The completion of the project marked the complete success of the "Ghana Model" proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington D.C., the U.S., in 2016. It made contributions to the civilian HEU reduction and eventual elimination, provided strong technical support for other conversion projects of MNSRs to low-enriched uranium, and offered important experience to the international community in terms of nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear security.

  • The research reactor in Algeria

The research reactor at the Birine Nuclear Research Centre in Algeria, a China-assisted project designed by the China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE) and undertaken by the China Zhongyuan Engineering Corporation (CZEC) in the 1980s, was the first large-scale nuclear facility exported by China. It can be used in fundamental scientific research, civil nuclear energy technology development and application, and medical isotope production, playing an important role in the field of science and technology in #Algeria. The research reactor was recognized as a model of South-South cooperation by the IAEA, and won first prize in China's National Science and Technology Progress Awards.

To make full use of the Es-Salam ("peace" in Arabic) research reactor and its facilities, and to meet the demand of Algeria in conducting nuclear scientific research and production, #CNNC, together  with  the  National Atomic Energy Commission of Algeria, upgraded and renovated the Birine Nuclear Research Centre (Phase I & Phase II) between 2014 and 2019, injecting new vitality into the project. The upgrading and renovation efforts have effectively improved Algeria's use of nuclear technology.

  • Hualong One

Hualong One (HPR-1000) is one of the most widely accepted Generation III nuclear power reactors in the international nuclear power market. It is a Generation III pressurized water reactor with fully independent intellectual property rights developed and designed by #CNNC, based on more than 30 years of experience in nuclear power research, design, construction, operation and management. As a national image of Chinese nuclear power to the world, it not only shows the transformation of China's nuclear power industry from "made in China" to "created in China", but also provides a Chinese solution for the peaceful use of nuclear energy in the world.
