Completion of fuel loading at Tianwan 4

Fuel loading under way at fourth Tianwan unit
The loading of fuel into the core of unit 4 at the Tianwan nuclear power plant in China's Jiangsu province has begun ahead of its start-up, Russian state nuclear company Rosatom has announced. The Russian-supplied VVER-1000 is scheduled to begin operating by the end of this year.

Second Sanmen AP1000 connected to grid

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held the first in a series of six regional training courses for secondary school science teachers last month in Indonesia. WANO completes reviews of Leningrad and Tianwan plants
A team from the World Association of Nuclear Operators' (WANO's) Moscow Centre has completed its independent review of unit 1 of the Leningrad Phase II nuclear power plant in northwest Russia. The VVER 1200 reactor is scheduled to enter commercial operation before the end of this year. The Moscow Centre also organised a pre-operational peer review at unit 4 of the Tianwan nuclear power plant in China's Jiangsu province. The Russian-designed 1060 MWe VVER-1000 pressurised water reactor is expected to begin operating in March 2019.

EDF maintains plant safety is a priority
French utility EDF has refuted the findings of a parliamentary commission into the safety and security of the country's nuclear energy facilities. The commission's report, published yesterday, contains "a number of factual errors" and "does not reveal any breach of the obligations incumbent on the operator", EDF noted.
