China seeks more nuclear energy cooperation: premier

Premier Li Keqiang said Wednesday that China is willing to cooperate with various countries in the peaceful use of nuclear energy on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.

He made the remarks in a congratulatory message sent to the 14th China International Nuclear Industry Exhibition and 20th Pacific Basin Nuclear Conference (PBNC2016) which opened in Beijing on Wednesday morning.

"The Chinese government attaches great importance to the development of nuclear power in a safe and efficient manner," said Li, adding that China hopes to deepen cooperation with other countries in safe utilization, industrial development, scientific and technological advancement and talent cultivation on nuclear energy.

The event showcased some of the world nuclear industry’s latest achievements, providing a platform for international exchanges on nuclear energy research and development.

Sun Qin, chairman of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and the chairman of PBNC2016, noted at the event that in recent years, nuclear energy has been an important national strategy for upgrading domestic energy structure, enhancing its technology and equipment quality, promoting international industrial energy cooperation and advancing economic development for China, and the country hopes to expand cooperation with other countries to build a close-knit community of shared interests and a shared nuclear energy future.
