    Egypt's Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA) has received a site approval permit for the El Dabaa site from the Egyptian Nuclear Regulation and Radiological Authority (ENRRA). The permit acknowledges that the site and its specific conditions comply with national and international requirements.

    Finnish power companies are looking for ways to streamline licensing and qualification processes through a new project started last year called KELPO. The first part of the project has been completed and it is moving ahead to the pilot phase, writes Tuomo Huttunen, senior advisor on nuclear power at Finnish Energy, which represents about 260 companies that produce, acquire, transmit and sell electricity, gas, district heat and district cooling and offer related services.

  • Russia completes upgrade of third Smlensk RBMK

    Rosatom has announced completion of life-extending modernisation work at unit 3 of the Smolensk nuclear power plant, the last of three RBMK-1000 reactors at the site in western Russia. The other two units are already set for an extended period of operation of 15 years.

  • Japanese team extracts elements from vitrified waste

    Japan's Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation has developed oxidation-reduction (redox) treatment technology that enables certain elements to be extracted from vitrified high-level radioactive waste. The technology will allow for the reuse of those elements and a reduction in the volume of high-level waste to be disposed of.
