Qian Zhimin, president of the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), met with former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien on Sept 21.

Qian enjoyed a deep discussion with Chrétien on the achievements that China and Canada have made in nuclear energy cooperation in recent years, as well as the prospects for further cooperation.

Qian expressed his gratitude to the former Canadian leader, who played a key role in furthering cooperation on nuclear energy between China and Canada.

He also introduced the latest developments that CNNC and its Canadian partners have made in nuclear energy cooperation.

Furthermore, Qian expressed his wish that both countries push nuclear energy cooperation to a new level, in order to build on the good political and economic relations between the two countries.

Chrétien spoke of the good relationship he has enjoyed with China over the years. He encouraged nuclear energy enterprises from both countries to make joint innovations and continue to work to make nuclear energy safer and more economical.

The former prime minister highly praised efforts by Chinese and Canadian enterprises to jointly develop projects in markets outside the two countries. He also said that he is willing to use his influence actively to promote specific programs.
