Chinese Vice-Premier Zhang Gaoli inspected Husab Uranium Mine, a project undertaken by China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN), during his visit to Namibia on Aug 27.

He Zixing, vice-president of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), delivered a work report on the implementation of the uranium project in Namibia.

Zhang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, praised the achievements made by CNNC staff, and expressed his expectations that CNNC would contribute to exploiting natural uranium resources and provide support for China’s nuclear power industry and development.

In 2008, CNNC started to seek uranium related business in Namibia, and now holds 25 percent of the shares in LH Mine and possesses land ownership and exploration rights for the uranium deposits in the Gaudeanmus area in Namibia, claimed He.

In the near future, CNNC will continue the research and development of uranium resources, and seek all-inclusive collaborations in the nuclear sector. He pleaded for supportive policies from the government to guarantee the mine acquisition and natural uranium trade in Namibia.
