China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and Russia’s Rosatom (or the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom) signed contracts on the framework of Unit 7/8 at Tianwan NPP, the framework of Xudapu NPP and the equipment supply and service procurement framework of China’s demonstration fast nuclear reactors, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on June 8.

President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin witnessed the signing ceremony before the SCO Qingdao Summit. This is by far the largest nuclear project cooperation between China and Russia. It expects to drive bilateral trade and industrial collaboration, improve the scientific and technological quality and level of the two countries, and further deepen the win-win relations.

The contracts signed above are valued to be over 20 billion yuan ($3.1 billion) and the total construction cost exceeds 100 billion yuan. China and Russia will jointly build four VVER-1200 third-generation nuclear power units near the Tianwan and Xudapu sites, and the two sides will work on the supply of equipment and technical service in China’s demonstration fast nuclear reactor project, according to the agreement.
