CNNC Chairman Yu Jianfeng addressed a parallel forum at the second Russian-Chinese Energy Business Forum in St. Petersburg on June 6.
As nuclear powers, China and Russia shoulder responsibilities to pioneer world nuclear development, Yu stressed in his speech.
He said the past few years have witnessed great achievements in Sino-Russia nuclear cooperation, with a new batch of cooperative projects between the two countries underway.
In the future, enhanced cooperation will be needed between Chinese and Russian nuclear companies, Yu added.
“As a safe, efficient and clean energy, nuclear power plays an irreplaceable role in promoting the energy revolution and safeguarding energy safety,” Yu said. “China and Russia need to strengthen cooperation to form a clean energy supply system, thus contributing to the safe development of the technology.”
The chairman also highlighted the importance of innovation as the primary driving force in promoting nuclear power development.
Yu suggested that both China and Russia should join hands to explore the global nuclear market by playing to their respective strengths, aiming to provide nuclear power supply solutions for the international community.
The forum aims to deepen the dialogue between Russia and China in the energy sector, improve efficiency and enhance the portfolio of joint projects, as well as attract investments.
Its business program includes panel discussions on key issues concerning Russian-Chinese energy cooperation in oil and gas, nuclear energy, electrical power and the banking sector.
The forum is organized alternately by the Rosneft Oil Company, who organized this year with the support of the Roscongress Foundation, and the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC).
The first forum was held in Beijing in November 2018 and was attended by representatives of roughly 90 companies from the energy, financial, and IT sectors, and political and public figures, as well as diplomats and experts from both Russia and China. Over 50 bilateral meetings were held and approximately 20 agreements were signed by energy companies from both countries.
The Russian Presidential Commission for the Strategic Development of the Fuel and Energy Sector and Environmental Security, together with the National Energy Commission of China, act as the coordinators of the forum.
