In this February, Rössing Uranium Limited, a subsidiary of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), organized its employees to install new windows, paint old window frames and join with teachers as well as students in the drawing of a mural work titled "the Tree of Life" at Michel Durocher Elementary School in Namibia's Karas.

"Cold weather used to be a huge challenge for this school. The newly-installed windows have built a defense line of warmth for local students," said the public welfare initiative's founder at a donation ceremony.

The mural work has fully shown the CNNC's commitment to the sustainable development philosophy that stresses the plantation of the seeds of hope, common progress and collaborative development.

In this March, staff workers with Rössing Uranium visited Okandongwena Kindergarten and installed iron fences around its wall. The fence project will not only enhance security level of the kindergarten but also bring new hope to kids there.

"All kindergartens shall be equipped with safety fences and hygienic facilities. Our old fences were damaged. We are grateful to the Rössing Uranium for the improvement of schooling facilities. Now students can run safely and acquire knowledge on the campus," said Aina Hainghumbi, the founder of this kindergarten.

This year marks the 12th anniversary of the "Employee Community Project," a public welfare program undertaken by staff workers of Rössing Uranium. They chose Okandongwena Kindergarten out of over 30 candidate projects as their focus this year. The kindergarten was founded in 1998 and its fences had deteriorated over time, posing safety risks. Therefore, Rössing Uranium donated school supplies and constructed new fences and restroom facilities, creating a safer, cleaner and more comfortable learning environment for children.

"We can see the future of Namibia from these children today, who will become backbone forces 20 years later. They might work in mines, hospitals and skyscrapers. It is not just a slogan but also a mission taken by Rössing Uranium to create a better future for the nation," said Kaino Ilovu, a communication adviser of the company, at the handover ceremony.

Rössing Uranium has followed dual strategies of "resource development" and "social responsibility," promoted the transformation and upgrading of old mines and integrated itself into Namibia's development through education support, public well-being, sports initiatives and job creation. Its localized procurement system, cross-cultural integration mechanisms and sustainable development model have injected long-term vitality into the Namibian economy. The company has taken the "Employee Community Project" as a strategic pillar, in the delivering of targeted support to remote educational institutions through cross-regional assistance, demand-driven initiatives and full participation.

Rössing Uranium has firmly fulfilled its obligations, which range from upgrading school facilities to withstand climate challenges to strengthening campus safety for children, and closely integrated education security with sustainable development. These initiatives have not only enhanced learning environment with thoughtful care but also fostered common values among employees and the community and shown the company's commitment to its presence in African market and the building of a shared future.

In the years ahead, Rössing Uranium will continue its collaboration with Rössing Foundation, drive local community development through education, well-being, sports and employment, channeling the strength of Chinese enterprises into Namibia's progress.
