Shen Yanfeng, general manager of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), held a meeting with Rafael Mariano Grossi, director-general of the IAEA, in Beijing on April 10. They exchanged views over the development trends of global nuclear industry and international nuclear energy cooperation.
Shen said that the CNNC has always attached great importance to its cooperation with the IAEA and proactively supported the endeavors made by Grossi and the IAEA for the peaceful utilization of nuclear energy. He noted that the CNNC is willing to further deepen its collaboration with the IAEA in multiple fields, share with the world about its four-decade long practices and experience in the building of nuclear power projects, and promote the technological innovation as well as industrial development of nuclear energy worldwide.
Grossi said that the CNNC has made tremendous contributions to the global clean energy transition through the large-scale development of nuclear power and technological innovation and provided other developing countries with applicable energy solutions. He spoke highly of China's achievements in the research and development of nuclear energy technology and the building of demonstration projects, and said that the IAEA looks forward to engaging in in-depth collaboration with the CNNC and jointly advancing the building of a safe and efficient global nuclear energy system.
After the meeting, China Nuclear Power Engineering (CNPE) Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of the CNNC, signed a deal with the IAEA over bolstering the performance of nuclear power plants and nuclear fuel cycle facilities via artificial intelligence and other innovative technologies, marking a concrete step taken by the two sides in deepening bilateral cooperation on nuclear energy innovation and digital transformation.
