The Quantum Radioactivity Metrology Laboratory and the Ionizing Radiation Metrology-Grade Equipment "One Line, Multi-use" Production and Research Platform, led by the China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE) under the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), have been completed and now operational.

This achievement fills a national gap in the field of low-temperature quantum magnetic calorimetry, marking that China's quantum radioactivity metrology technology has reached an internationally advanced level. As a key component of the National Atomic Energy Industry Metrology Testing Center's infrastructure, the new platform represents a major step forward in China's ionizing radiation metrology and high-end instrumentation capabilities. It also provides a solid metrological foundation for the sustainable development of nuclear energy, medical physics, industrial applications, and fundamental scientific research.

The Quantum Radioactivity Metrology Laboratory is China's first innovation platform to achieve low-energy gamma-ray single-photon pulse detection based on the magnetic calorimetry principle. It enhances gamma-ray energy resolution to the hundreds of electron volts (eV) level, greatly improving the analysis of key nuclides. Notably, the research team independently developed core components, including a quantum magnetic calorimeter sensor chip, achieving a breakthrough from scratch in domestic magnetic calorimetry signal detection and advancing China's self-reliance in high-end instrumentation.
Launched alongside the laboratory, the "One Line, Multi-use" Production and Research Platform addresses technical bottlenecks in high-end instrument manufacturing. Integrating innovative research, precision manufacturing, rigorous validation, and reliable assurance, it focuses on meeting the comprehensive requirements for the development and production of high-precision intelligent metrology equipment. It establishes a complete chain from material storage, component assembly to product testing, forming a closed-loop system covering design, development, manufacturing, assembly, testing, and optimization. This aims to accelerate the transformation of innovation into application-ready products, ensuring they meet high-end applications and market demands.
