China has recently developed the new high-end nuclear technology equipment for agricultural irradiation breeding. The high-uniformity irradiation breeding linear electron accelerator, independently designed and manufactured by the China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE) under China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), has successfully completed performance verification and on-site commissioning, with core technical indicators hitting advanced domestic levels. Marking a major breakthrough in the in-depth integration of nuclear technology and modern agriculture, this achievement has further improved China's specialized equipment system for irradiation breeding, and consolidated the foundation for enhancing independent innovation capacity in the seed industry and safeguarding national food security.

Adopting a standing-wave acceleration structure for compact design, the device generates high-energy X-rays through electron beam targeting. Within the irradiation range of 400mm×300mm, the X-ray non-uniformity rate is less than 4% and the dose error is within 1%, tackling the industry bottleneck of high-precision irradiation dose control. It enables customized irradiation mutagenesis for seeds and seedlings of rice, wheat, corn, fruits and vegetables, greatly improving the screening efficiency of beneficial crop variations. Equipped with a fully automatic intelligent conveying and control system as well as multiple closed-loop safety protection devices, the equipment achieves a seed positioning error within 0.5mm. Featuring green, safe, convenient, and stable operation, it reliably guarantees the accuracy and success rate of seed breeding.

Adopting the advanced Integrated Product Development (IPD) management model, the R&D team focused on industry challenges and customer demands to efficiently advance the R&D of the commercial prototype and completed the development of the accelerator within three months.
