Unit 7 of the Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant, invested in and controlled by China National Nuclear Power Co Ltd, a subsidiary of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), was successfully connected to the grid in East China's Jiangsu province on Oct 8, laying a solid foundation for the unit to enter commercial operation on schedule.

The Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant is designed to have 8 units in total. To date, the first six units of the nuclear power plant have generated more than 550 billion kWh of electricity. Unit 7 is scheduled to be put into commercial operation before the end of this year.
Once all 8 units are completed, the nuclear power plant will have a total installed capacity of 9 million kW and generate nearly 70 billion kWh of electricity annually, equivalent to cutting carbon dioxide emissions by more than 57.4 million metric tons per year.

The nuclear power plant will also inject strong impetus into further improving the energy structure in eastern China, safeguarding regional energy security, supporting the realization of the nation's dual carbon goals — peaking carbon emissions before 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality before 2060, and advancing green and low-carbon development.
