IAEA helps cyclone-hit Mozambique prevent animal disease
The International Atomic Energy Agency has delivered emergency supplies to help Mozambique fight further outbreaks of animal diseases, such as African swine fever, foot and mouth disease and Rift Valley fever, which could threaten people and livestock in the aftermath of floods caused by recent cyclones.

Holtec completes plant acquisition
Holtec International has completed its acquisition of the shut-down Oyster Creek nuclear power plant from Exelon. Meanwhile, all nuclear fuel has been removed from the reactor at Entergy's Pilgrim nuclear power plant, which is due to be sold to Holtec later this year for accelerated decommissioning.

Rosatom plans fuel research in Czech Republic
TVEL and the Czech research center Řež have signed a cooperation agreement in materials science studies and research. TVEL, the nuclear fuel manufacturer subsidiary of Russia’s Rosatom, announced today that Czech scientists will conduct experiments on the irradiation of nuclear construction materials in the CVŘ research reactor and also carry out pre-irradiation and post-irradiation studies.

Foundation in place for first Hinkley Point C unit
Construction of the concrete basemat has been completed for the nuclear island of the first of two EPR units at the Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant in Somerset, England. The major milestone came as the Confederation of British Industry called for the UK government to support the construction of more new reactors.

Russia gets operating licence for floating plant
Russia's Rosenergoatom has received an operating licence for its floating nuclear power plant, Akademik Lomonosov, from the country's regulator Rostechnadzor. The facility is 144 metres in length, 30 metres wide and has a displacement of 21,000 tonnes. It has two 35 MWe KLT-40S reactors.
