Foundation in place for first Hinkley Point C unit

Construction of the concrete basemat has been completed for the nuclear island of the first of two EPR units at the Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant in Somerset, England. The major milestone came as the Confederation of British Industry called for the UK government to support the construction of more new reactors.
DOE announces funding for nuclear energy R&D

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has announced USD49.3 million in funding for nuclear energy research, facility access, crosscutting technology development, and infrastructure for 58 advanced nuclear technology projects in 25 states.

Russia gets operating licence for floating plant

Russia's Rosenergoatom has received an operating licence for its floating nuclear power plant, Akademik Lomonosov, from the country's regulator Rostechnadzor. The facility is 144 metres in length, 30 metres wide and has a displacement of 21,000 tonnes. It has two 35 MWe KLT-40S reactors.
French public sees continued use of nuclear energy

Work starts on Finnish fuel encapsulation plant

Finnish waste management company Posiva today announced the start of construction of the used fuel encapsulation plant at the Olkiluoto site in western Finland. Installation of the necessary systems within the underground disposal chambers is also set to begin soon.
