“China’s nuclear power generation scale is first in the world.” said Chinese President Xi Jinping at the China High-Tech Fair held in Cairo on Jan 20.

President Xi visited the exhibition stand of the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and inspected the HPR1000 model with Egyptian Prime Minister Sharif Ismail Mohamed. When Ismail asked about the capacity and other parameters of the HPR1000, President Xi informed him that a single HPR1000 unit generates 1 million kW of power.

After discussing overseas nuclear power plant construction, President Xi said the fair demonstrated China’s economic strength and advanced scientific and technological ability.

Li Xuedong, group leader of the Discipline Inspection Group of CNNC, briefed the group on the breakthroughs of the HPR1000 in China and abroad.

Apart from the HPR1000, the CNNC exhibition also showcased advanced medium-sized reactors, small multi-functional module-style reactors and nuclear fuels.

The fair was organized by China’s Ministry of Commerce. Other participants included Li Zhanshu, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee; and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
