Hualong International Nuclear Power Technology Corporation, established jointly by China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and China General Nuclear Group (CGN), held its launching ceremony on Mar 17. CNNC and CGN signed the shareholder’s investment contract and charter for Hualong on Dec 30, 2015. The launch marks the start of the new company’s formal operations and will lend momentum to the continued integration and development of HPR1000 technology. The company will promote the technology’s lot-size construction and entry into the global marketplace.

The HPR1000 technology today is in a crucial period of demonstrating sound engineering construction while seeking domestic and foreign market lot-size promotion. Thus as an integrated platform for HPR1000, Hualong is meant to carry forward national nuclear power development through continued integration and development of the technology. The company is also intended to acquire related technology and develop brand and intellectual property rights both in China and overseas. The goal is to make HPR1000 a branded representative of China’s self-developed third generation nuclear power technology, and to ensure that it “goes global”in accordance with the “integrated technical route, uniformed standard, one Hualong and one direction” requirement.

The current HPR1000 demonstration projects, all operating smoothly, are Fuqing, Fangcheng port and Pakistan’s Karachi, which is the first HPR1000 reactor abroad. A frame contract for an Argentinian project and an investment contract for a British one have been signed, signaling that HPR1000 has broken through into the overseas market.
