A core principle-based model of an ACP100 rod control power cabinet was recently reported as successfully developed by China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC)’s Nuclear Power Institute of China (NPIC), laying a solid foundation for the next steps in engineering prototype R&D and signaling that the institute is mastering all the key technologies of rod control and position indication systems for nuclear power stations. The success will also help for CNNC’s independent supply of rod control and position indication system equipment.

As the key device of the rod control and position indication system, the rod control power cabinet works by providing sequence current meeting accuracy and speed requirements for the driving mechanism to realize movements of the control rod. It is the most important and flexible method of adjusting a reactor’s power.

With adaptations the device can also be applied to nuclear power stations using other types of reactors, lowering development costs.
