Qian Zhimin, president of the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), took advantage of his attendance at the B20 summit in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province to set up several high-level meetings with CNNC’s international partners on Sept 3.

Qian met with Argentine President Mauricio Macri, Askar Zhumagaliev, CEO of Kazakhstan’s national atomic company Kazatomprom and Preston Swafford, president and CEO of Candu Energy, among others.

During his meeting with Zhumagaliev, Qian stated that CNNC attaches great importance to its cooperation with Kazakhstan and is willing to work with Kazatomprom on further projects related to the nuclear industry chain.

Zhumagaliev responded that Kazakhstan’s president supports cooperation between their two enterprises, and said he hopes China will continue its work on uranium mine development and purification, transport and fuel pellet technologies.

In the meeting with Swafford, Qian and the Candu head enjoyed an in-depth exchange of views on advanced heavy-water reactor research, jointly promoting Candu technology, nuclear fuel, small modular reactors and new nuclear power stations.

Qian also took an active role in the B20 summit, the final supporting meeting before 2016 G20 summit that acts as a significant platform for the international business community to participate in global economic governance and the determination of international trade rules.

Representatives from the B20 submitted their proposals to Chinese President Xi Jinping during the G20 opening ceremony.
