Invited by Cengiz Group, Wang Shoujun, chairman of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), paid a visit to Turkey with a delegation from June 11 to 14, and met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak on June 13 in Ankara.
During the visit, Wang inspected Turkey’s first ultra-supercritical coal-fired power plant co-constructed by CNNC and Cengiz Group.
As Turkey’s largest project for energy infrastructure construction, the plant utilizes two ultra-supercritical coal-fired units, and has installed capacity of 1.32 million kilowatts.
The project was agreed in May 2013, and is scheduled to connect grids and generate electricity by the end of 2017.
It’s the first time China has exported ultra-supercritical coal-fired units, using facilities designed to meet European manufacturing standards.
The project has not only efficiently driven the export of China’s cutting-edge technologies, facilities and services, but also boosted cooperation between China and Turkey in the energy sector, while contributing to the Belt and Road Initiative.
Wang also exchanged ideas with Turkish energy companies including Cengiz Group, Kalyon Group and Kolin Group regarding deepening cooperation in the energy sector.
