CNNC exports self-developed cobalt-60 radiation
Recently, vehicles carrying a million curie of cobalt-60 radioactive substances developed by China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) went to Shanghai waiting for shipping overseas.
It demonstrates another move of China’s nuclear technology applying toward industry since CNNC independently researched and produced the cobalt-60 radiation. It marks China has accomplished the large-scale export of domestic cobalt-60 radiation for the first time.
Cobalt-60, an isotope of cobalt, is widely utilized in agriculture, industry and medication. At present, only a few countries in the world, such as Canada, China and Russia, have the capacity to produce cobalt-60 material.
